DRIVERS’ UNION
SOUTHLAND -BRANCH. MONTHLY MEETING. The monthly meeting of the Southland Drivers’ Union was held in the Labour Hall last evening, there being an attendance of over 50 members. A report was received from the secretary of the Drivers’ Federation, Wellington, on the annual conference of affiliated unions, delegates being present from all parts of New Zealand. Mr D. Harris, the union’s delegate at the conference, stated that difficulties affecting drivers of all classes of vehicles had been fully discussed. A report was also received on the Dominion drivers’ dispute before the Conciliation Council, little progress having been made. It was decided to adjourn the sitting to a date to be decided upon by Mr T. O. Bishop, employers’ representative, and Mr A. Parlance, secretary of the New Zealand Federation. No date had yet been submitted. The membership fee was fixed as follows: Entrance fee 5/-; yearly subscription, £1; half-yearly, 10/-; quarterly, 5/-. If subscriptions were not paid in advance the fee would be 1/- a week.
