REARED ON CLAM JUICE
AN ASTONISHING RESULT. Away back in the ’fifties when the coast of Vancouver, British Columbia, contained only a few rude huts the first white child, a baby boy, was born. The mother was very ill and only with the greatest difficulty was her life saved. The few white settlers were in despair how to rear the child. There were no cows or goats from which to obtain milk; the poor mother could not feed her child. .... u One man had an inspiration. He tried clam juice on the baby. To the settlers’ amazement the child flourished. In six months it doubled its weight; soon it was walking and talking. To-day this first white child, aged 84 is still hale and hearty. But his stomach rises and falls with each change of the tide. This was the story told to members of the Invercargill Rotary Club yesterday by a Canadian visitor, Colonel W B. Clayton.
