BALFOUR NOTES

PERSONAL ITEMS. (From Our Correspondent.) Miss M. Manson has returned home after spending a few days in Invercargill. Miss N. Cromie, Riversdale, is the guest of Mr and Mrs L. F. Fraser. Presbyterian Ladies’ Guild. The quarterly meeting of the above was held on Tuesday afternoon, when Mrs McDonald presided. Prior to the commencement of business a motion of sympathy was passed with Mrs D. Alexandra in the death of her father. A general discussion on Guild matters followed. Mrs McDonald then declared the meeting closed and wished all present the comnliments of the season. Mrs Liddell, on behalf of all present, moved a hearty vote of thanks to the chair and reciprocated good wishes. Afternoon tea was then handed round and a small sale of Christmas goods was held. On Wednesday evening a very enjoyable school concert was given by the children in the hall. Mr A. Rasmussen (chairman) announced the fol-

lowing programme:—Opening choruses by the scholars; Eastern item, Salaam and Eastern Balances, by K. Rasmussen, G. Cowie, E. Rasmussen, V. Joyce, L. Baird and J. At the conclusion of the programme Mr Rasmi'csen thanked the teachers, Miss Hart and Mr Cassels, also Mrs Cassels, Mrs P. McDonald and Miss Sheed for the work they had gone to to make the concert the success it undoubtedly had been. Mr A, Liddell controlled the floor.
