SUPREME COURT
GISBORNE SESSION, (Per United Press Association.) Gisborne, November 6. At the Supreme Court Mr Justice Smith sentenced Rawiri Grant, aged 49, to six months concurrent on each of two charges of carnal knowledge, the Judge commenting that it was difficult to deal satisfactorily in a case where the parties were Maoris and where there seemed to have been a grave lack of parental control. For breaking, entering and theft, Rata Wahanui, aged 21, was sentenced to three years reformative, the Judge remarking that a stringent sentence was necessary as prisoner since 1933 had embarked on a career of crime.
