DIPTON NOTES
TEMPERANCE MEETING. (From Our Correspondent.) At the week-end a temperance meeting was held under the auspices of the P.W.M.U. the speaker being Pastor V. C. Stafford from Invercargill. He outlined his experiences in Australia and the progress of temperance in other countries.
On Monday night there was a small but very representative gathering to consider a circular sent out by the Southland branch of the Crippled Children’s Association. Mr Stewart briefly outlined the origin and progress of tlxe movement in New Zealand and read the circular sent out. It was decided to form a committee and Mr J. Milligan was elected chairman, MxStewart secretary, and a strong committee of the following was set up.— Mesdames D. McCurdy, D. McDonald, W. Sinclair, F. Sinclair, Murray Menzies, McGill and W. Harrison; Messrs W. Sinclair, J. Harrison, H. Ewen, W. Goble, Murray Menzies. After considerable discussion it was decided to canvass the district by circular and by personal effort where possible with the object of gaining members or donations.
