RATIONED TEACHERS

STANDARD RATES OF SALARY.

(Per United Press Association.)

Wellington, November 5.

“The new scheme announced by the Minister of Education for the employment of those teachers at present serving under the rationing scheme will give general satisfaction to the profession,” stated Mr G. R. Ashbridge, secretary of the New Zealand Educational Institute in the course of an interview to-day. “The scheme fully- meets the claims which have recently been made by the Institute and provides for standard rates of salary to all trained teachers. It should, of course, be clearly understood that by February of next year 85 per cent, of the present rationed teachers will be needed for normal staffing requirements. It is, however, very gratifying to see that surplus teachers will be employed at scale rates until they receive ordinary positions.”
