TRAMPING CLUB
OUTING AT MANGAPIRI.
During Labour Day week-end a party consisting of 28 members of the Southland Tramping Club spent an enjoyable time camping and tramping in the Mangapiri district Leaving Invercargill on Saturday afternoon the party journeyed to Belmont Station, which was to be the base camp and is ideally situated four miles from the Takitimus.
On Sunday, with prospects of a fine day, an early start was made and at 6.15 a.m. the trampers started for the mountains. An ascent was made of the snow-covered peaks in the vicinity of Brunel Peak. On arriving at the top an excellent view was obtained of the surrounding country. On Monday Lake Monowai and the power-house were the objectives for the day. The weather was ideal for tramping and a most enjoyable day was spent by all. On Monday evening with sleepingbags rolled up and haversacks packed, the homeward journey ’ was made, everyone being well satisfied with their week-end.
