GORE ASSOCIATION MEETING OF EXECUTIVE At the monthly meeting of the executive of the Gore Returned Soldiers Association on Tuesday there were present Messrs Milton Green (president), W. D. Shelton, A. L. McDowell, T. Fyfe, J. McDonald, F. M. Murray, L. Roberts. E. J. Columb, A. C. Steel, J. Adams, S. Paterson, T. Rushbridge, C. M. Wilson and G. L. Gerken (secretary). The hospital visiting sub-committee reported on its visits to the sick members during the past fortnight. On both Sundays two ex-soldiers were visited at the public hospital, one at the East Gore hospital and two at their homes. Messrs Columb and Wilson were appointed a visiting committee for the next term. The sub-committee appointed, to select the class for the association’s prize to the A. and P. Association recommended that it be given to the best section or half section of the Otago Mounted Rifles at the show, and that Mr A. Wayte be asked to act as judge. It was decided to donate a cup for annual competition, and also to provide cash prizes of £1 and 10/- for frist and second places respectively. One new member was elected to the association. The secretary reported that the financial membership now stood, at 299, as compared with 287 last meeting night and 237 at the corresponding period last year. The secretary reported that he had conferred with the association’s solicitor regarding the new rule allowing the admittance as members of the association of members of the Mercantile Marine who had served in war zones and who had been issued with the British War Medal. The alteration would require to be confirmed by an extraordinary or general meeting of members.

A sub-committee consisting of Messrs Roberts (convener), Green, Wilson and the secretary was appointed to go through the rule book and report to next meeting on any other alterations that were necessary. The general secretary, headquarters, Wellington, forwarded the financial membership ladder of all New Zealand associations as at July 31, 1935. Gore occupied eighth position with 272 members.
