SAMOAN STAMPS

FIRST-DAY COVERS. ARRIVAL ON AUGUST 23. (Per United Press Association.) Wellington, August 14. H.M.S. Diomede, which will arrive in Auckland on August 23 from Apia, is bringing the first-day covers of the new issue of the Western Samoa pictorial stamps. The extent of the public interest in this series can be gauged from the fact that there are 31,000 of these first-day covers, and collectors will now receive them a week earlier than had been anticipated.
