Mrs I. D. Jack, Invercargill, is the guest of Mrs W. Young, Park street. Miss N. Crowe, Limehills, left on Wednesday for Auckland, where she will attend the Dominion conference of Women’s Institutes.
Mrs B. Rushton, jun., Nightcaps, was the guest of Mrs R. E. Cowie, Oreti, last week.
Miss F. Dixon, Lillburn, has returned home after spending a few days as the guest of Miss E, Pierce, McKenzie street.
Mrs J. P. Andersen, Durham street, entertained a number of young folk on Saturday afternoon to celebrate the birthday of her daughter Eunice.
Mr and Mrs R. McKissock left last week to spend an extended holiday at Waikaia.
Miss Peggy Rumler, who has been spending a holiday in Waimate, spent last week-end in Invercargill before returning to her home at Browns. Miss Joyce Davies, Ohai, has returned home after spending a few days with Mrs H. Denny, Great North Road, Miss Marjorie Tunnicliffe, Riverton, has returned home after spending a holiday with Mrs E. Ward, Great North Road.
Miss I. Hayward, Lorneville, has been visiting her parents, Mr and Mrs J. G. Hayward, Forest Hill. Mrs John Pledger, Dunedin, was the guest of Mrs P. A. de la Perrelle, Park street, for a few days last week. Mrs J. G. King, “The Bend.” who has been spending a holiday in Christchurch, returned home last week. There was a good attendance at the l euchre party conducted by the Rovers Basketball Club on Tuesday evening last. The successful players were Mrs J. Egerton and Mr H. A. Pierce. The weekly euchre tournament run under the auspices of the R.S.A. was held in the club rooms on Thursday evening. ■ Mrs J. Mcllwrick was the winner of the ladies’ prize and Mr Reid was the winner of the men’s. Under the auspices of the Central District Basketball Sub-Association a successful dance was held in the Radio Theatre on Monday evening of last week. There was a large attendance, while the hall was suitably decorated and the floor was in excellent order. A Monte Carlo waltz was won by Miss M. Forde and partner. Music was provided by the Revellers’ Orchestra (Invercargill) while extras were contributed by Miss M. Tilley. Messrs W. Brown, W. Berry, N. Pierce and I. McDougall carried out the duties of M.C’s.
