RIVERTON
Mrs John Crawford, Beach road, has returned from a holiday spent in Invercargill. Mr and Mrs J. A. B. Walker, The Rocks, have returned after an extended holiday spent in the north. Mrs J. Cleland, Invercargill, has been the guest of Mr and Mrs G. W. McNaughton, South Riverton. Mrs L. Raymond, “Woodslea Downs,” who has been staying at the Aparima Hotel,* entertained a number of friends at a bridge party last week. Miss Woodward, Invercargill, is visiting Mr and Mrs John Crawford, Beach road.
The Riverton Queen Carnival Ball was held in the Empire Theatre on Monday, the 15th. The hall was artistically decorated with coloured streamers. Music was supplied by the Syncopators’ Orchestra, extras being played by Miss and"Mr Raper, of Ohai. Mr L. Cloughley acted as M.C. During an interval between dances an exhibition of tap dancing was given by Misses K. Hancock, M. Strang, E. Bryce and A. Abercrombie, pupils of Miss Playfair. The item was very well received as was a guitar solo by Mr H. Barrett.

Miss Eunice More, South Riverton, is spending an extended holiday in the North Island. Mrs Robertson and Mrs Powell, of Thornbury,' have been the guests of Mrs M. Rose.
The Rocks Reading Circle held their weekly meeting on Thursday at. Beach House. A play, “A Little Bit of Life,” by G. I. Peacock was read, parts being taken by the following: Mesdames Black, Borland, Hankin and Silversides. A play: “A School for Cynics” will be part of the programme on Wednesday next.
