SCOTTS GAP NOTES

SUCCESSFUL TENNIS CONCERT AND DANCE. (From Our Correspondent.) A large gathering of residents from Scotts Gap, Aparima, Wairio and Otautau assembled in the Scotts Gap Hall on Wednesday, July 17, to hear a concert given by Mr Pettitt’s party in aid of the local tennis club, whose funds should benefit considerably as a result. Mr Auld (chairman), Mr Currie (secretary) and a willing committee assisted in all arrangements. The programme was as follows:—lnstrumental quartette, Misses Teviotdale; tenor solos, Mr Buchan; dance duo, Misses I. and K. Smellie; song, Miss Pettitt; violin solos, Mr Pettitt; dance, Misses L. and N. Marshall; guitar solo, Miss Jessie Teviotdale; song, Miss Johnstone; pianoforte solos, Miss Chrissie Sheddan; piano-accordion solos, Mr W. Symon. Miss Lena Collie and Mrs Johnstone acted as accompanistes. At the conclusion of the performance the chairman thanked Mr Pettitt and his party for their splendid entertainment.

The remainder of the evening was spent in dancing to music supplied by Mr Pettitt, with Mi- A. Saunders as M.C.

Marshall, Dickson, Beck, Sheddan, Smellie (Otautau), Kean, Johnstone, Misses Sheddan (4), McCully, Price, Smellie (2), (Otautau), Teviotdale (4), Collie, Pettitt, Lyon, Cowan, Kennedy, James, Taylor, Kean, Clothier, Johnstone, Marshall (2), Philpot, Marshall, Messrs Auld, Stewart, Kane, McCully (2), Price (2), Sheddan (3), J. Kean, G. James, Keen, Philpot (2), Brown, Smith, Clouston, Marshall (2), Taylor, Flowers, Paterson. Mrs J. C. Kane is at present on an extended tour- of the South Island. She also intended visiting Wellington to attend the Women’s Division Conference.
