Plunket Society
INVERCARGILL BRANCH. The monthly meeting of the Invercargill branch of the Plunket Society was held immediately after the annual meeting on Friday of last week. The following are the nurses’ reports: Matron Ingold, reporting from the Karitane-Hunt Hospital, stated that the number of patients in on May 31 was two mothers and 9 babies. Four mothers and nine babies were admitted for treatment, while six mothers and nine babies were discharged. The number of patients in on June 30 was nine babies, while the largest number in on any one day was two mothers «and ten babies. Two mothers were admitted from Invercargill, one from Otautau, and one from Winton, while five babies were admitted from Invercargill, one from Athol, two from Otautau and one from Winton. With regard to the nursing staff, Miss Burnett left the hospital staff to join the district staff on June 23 and her position was filled by Miss Molineaux. Miss Mary Stewart commenced her training. During the month there were 299 visitors, including a visit from a large party of country girls in connection with the W.D.F.U. educational week, when they were shown over the hospital and given a talk on “Preparation for Motherhood.” Other visitors were Dr Ritchie Crawford, Dr Stanley Brown, Dr David Jennings and Dr A. T. McCaw. Reporting from the Anderson Plunket Home, Gala street, Nurse Maclntyre stated that the total number of cases (town and country) was 38 and at the centre (babies only) 25. Thirty-five visits were paid to homes where there were new cases and 266 to homes where there were old cases. Four hundred and thirty-one adults, 402 babies and 63 older children visited the office while 871 babies and 229 older children were under supervision. Eight letters were received and five written. The general health of the babies was reported to be good. Nurse Rhind reporting for Waikiwi from the Anderson Plunket Home stated that the number of visits paid to Waikiwi was four when 20 visits were paid to homes and 63 adults, 63 babies and 10 older children visited the office. The general health was good. Nurse Wilson, reporting on the subbranches from the Anderson Plunket Home, stated that four visits were paid to Riverton when seven visits were paid to homes and 38 adults and 37 babies visited the rooms. There were two new cases. Bluff was visited four times when 17 visits were paid to homes and 31 adults and 35 babies visited the rooms. There was one new case. Tuatapere was visited three times when 17 visits were paid to homes and 31 adults and 31 babies visited the rooms. There were four new cases. Otautau was visited twice when eight visits were paid to homes and 28 adults and 28 babies visited the rooms. Orepuki was visited twice when four visits were paid to homes and eight adults and eight babies visited the rooms. One visit was paid to Ohai when three visits were paid to homes and 16 adults and 16 babies visited the rooms. One visit was paid to Nightcaps when three visits were paid to homes and ten adults and eight babies visited the rooms. There was one new case. Wrights Bush was visited twice when 14 adults and 14 babies visited the rooms. There were two new cases. The number of cases under supervision was 233,
Nurse Maclntyre reporting on the out-stations from the Anderson Plunket Home, stated that at South Invercargill 120 visits were paid to homes and 79 adults, 67 babies and 10 older children visited the rooms. There was one new case. At the rest rooms visits were made by 71 adults, 68 babies and four older children and there were three new cases.
