DIRECTORS MEET
A. & P. ASSOCIATION
REVISED JUDGES’ LIST.
At a meeting of directors of the Southland A. and P. Association yesterday afternoon the president (Mr A. S Holms), presided over Messrs W. Falconer, T. Hamilton, S. T. Evans, S. Young, J. Young and Dr. A. F. Ritchie Crawford. After a discussion in committee regarding Royal Show finance it was decided that the contribution to the Royal Agricultural Society be £250. Judging of Pony Section.
In reply to a letter from the secretary (Mr A. L. Adamson) regarding the conduct of the judging of the pony section at the Royal Show, the judge, Mr W. J. Roberts, of “Fairview,” Clinton, wrote stating that he had forgotten if the classes were judged in the order set out in the catalogue or otherwise. Whatever the case might be, he wished to inform the committee that as far as he was concerned he had always been well satisfied with the management and with the courtesy extended to him. “There was a considerable amount of dissatisfaction over the measuring of the ponies,” Mr Roberts went on/ “Candidly speaking, I think there were quite a number of ponies allowed into the ring on past certificates which unfortunately some of us did not have with us (and were turned down). I would suggest that in future all ponies be measured before entering the ring, and a ticket or pass given to each, so that, if questioned by the judge, it can be produced. I think if this plan were adopted and strictly adhered to, it would save a considerable amount of dissatisfaction among the competitors and also be more satisfactory to the judge.” The chairman remarked that in some cases ponies grew out of their measurements after they had been taken and certificates duly awarded. It was decided that all ponies be measured at the show in future. Mr Falconer gave notice of motion that only directors of the association act as marshals in the various classes at future shows.
