EVENING SPORTS
FIXTURE AT WINTON.
SUCCESSFUL. FINAL MEETING.
(From Our Correspondent.)
The final meeting of the current season of the Winton Evening Sports Club was held on Wednesday evening, on the Winton Domain. Wednesday evening’s fixture marked the final night for competition for the Berry and the Brown Cup. The former for the professional gaining most points throughout the season, was annexed by M. Forde, who has exhibited good form at local evening meetings, but at the same time lias not shown his best form at more important fixtures on the Southland circuit, as scratch man. Locally Forde has won all his races from the back mark, and it is quite fitting that he should secure this suitable trophy. The Brown Cup for the amateur gaining most, points throughout the season, was gained by E. Ward, a young runner who has shown vastly improved form during the current season. The dancing events on Wednesday evening also attracted large entries, and keen competition was the order of the evening in this section. Mr P. Reynolds acted as judge, while the pipers were Messrs Gilmour and McLeod, and Mr H. Morton (violin). The results were as follows:— Cycling.
