LIMEHILLS NOTES

SOCIAL EVENINGS. (From Our Correspondent.) Mrs P. Kettle was hostess on Tuesday evening in honour of Mr Les Henderson, Centre Bush Presbyterian Church choirmaster, on the eve of his approaching marriage. The evening was spent in community singing, games and competitions. Musical items were given by the following: Songs, Miss J. Hammond and Mr W. Cuthbert, and a musical monologue by Miss M. B. Cowie. Miss B. Hammond and Mr L. Cowie were accompanists. At a suitable interval Mr W. Walker, on behalf of the choir members, presented Mr Henderson with a beaten bronze firescreen and fire irons. Messrs W. Cuthbert and F. Harris endorsed his remarks. Mr Henderson suitably replied. Those present were: Mrs Coster, Misses S. Lepper, G. Sligo, M. and N. Wilson, B. and J. Hammond, M. B. Cowie and E. Kettle, Messrs L. and D. Henderson, W. Walker, G. Peck, F. Harris, W. Cuthbert ana L. Cowie. The members of the Limehills Athletic Society entertained their secretary, Mr E. J. Crowe, who was married recently, at a smoke concert in the Limehills Hall on Thursday evening. Mr J. Reid, who acted as chairman, presented the guest of honour with a travelling rug and referred to his popularity among the members, and his work as secretary of the club. Several other speakers endorsed the chairman’s remarks. Cards and community singing passed away a pleasant evening. Cricket

The second round of the CentralWestern competition opened on Saturday, January 26. Owing to rain falling the Ohai-Limehills match finished in a draw. For Limehills, L.
