TAPANUI NOTES
FIRE BRIGADE MEETING. (From Our Correspondent.) The Tapanui Fire Brigade held a special meeting on Tuesday evening to choose a team to attend the United Fire Brigades’ Association’s demonstration to be held in February at Blenheim. Five members were chosen, Messrs G. Jarrold, J. Smith, R. Munyard, F. Lischner, J. Rodger. Captain Strong was appointed delegate to the conference.
A well-known resident of Heriot, Mr Allan Paterson, .died in Dunedin Hospital on Tuesday. Mr Paterson had been in bad health for some time and was for a:short time in Tapanui Hospital. He was removed to Dunedin for further treatment but lived only a short time. Mr Paterson was born near Palmerston, and on coming to Heriot bought Mr S. Ottrey’s farm, and afterwards Adams’ Bros. He took a great interest in all farming matters, being on the committee of the Kelso A. and P. Association for many years. His deafness prevented him attending meetings but he was always ready to help in any practical way. His funeral at Crookston cemetery was largely attended, Mr M. J. McFadgen being the officiating minister at the service in the house and at the grave. The deaths also occurred during the week of two old residents of Tapanui,
Mrs Keeley, who has lived in the district for twenty-seven years, and Mrs A. S. Edgar, who came to Tapanui on her marriage twenty-five years ago. Both were interred in Tapanui cemetery, the Rev. W. H. Norton conducting the funeral services for Mrs Keeley, and the Rev. H. Fallows (Anglican) officiating at the burial of Mrs Edgar. As the holidays are drawing to a close campers at the Ranklebum, Whiskey Gully and other district camping places have for the most part now moved homewards. Weather conditions during the past week have not been too favourable, showers falling nearly every day, and temperatures being very much cooler.
