DENOMINATIONAL SCHOOLS.
To the Editor. Sir, —In this morning’s paper, January 16, there appears a paragraph in which Cardinal Macßory, Primate of all Ireland, says that since coming here he is glad to find that there is so much good feeling between different denominations in New Zealand. It must seem strange to the fair-minded reader that this same Cardinal Macßory, when leaving Australia after the Eucharistic Conference, said: “The attitude of the Australian. Government to Roman Catholics In the mater of education is 'deplorable* because it refuses to grant State aid to Roman Catholic schools.” Therefore does Cardinal Macßory believe that by keeping the children of his denomination separate from the rest of the children of the Dominion (by building private denominational schools) he is likely to create the best of good fellowship between the parents and children of the different denominations? The very opposite will take place, and anyone possessing the intelligence of an ordinary individual knows this absolutely. He, the Cardinal, also refers to the Master who commanded all men to love one another. How can he expect that to take place when he is advocating the very thing which must and will have the opposite effect, viz., the private denominational schools? —I am, etC- ’ LOVER OF JUSTICE.
