FORTIFICATION NOTES
VALEDICTORY. (From Our Correspondent.) In honour of her approaching marriage, Miss Matilda Fleming, was tendered a farewell and gift evening, on Friday. There was a large attendance present. The evening was spent in dancing, music being supplied locally, while Mr T. Templeton carried out the duties of M.C. At a suitable interval, Miss Macpherson did a sword dance, to music supplied by her father, on the bagpipes. After supper was dispensed, Mr D. Livingston, on behalf of those present, asked Miss Fleming to accept the number of gifts offered, at the same time wishing her every happiness in her new life. After this, the guest was accorded musical honours. Mr E. Ayson, in replying on behalf of Miss Fleming, thanked the people for the useful gifts and pleasant evening, and expressed a wish that the people of Fortification would visit them in their new home.
A pleasant and successful evening was brought to a close by the singing of Auld Lang Syne. Among those present were: Mr and Mrs D. Livingston, Mr and Mrs R. Kennedy, Mr and Mrs E. Livingston; Messrs E. Ayson, Fleming (3), T. Jenks, Fallow (2), Templeton, Poultney, Cook (2), Holms (3), Chrighton (2), C. Golden, A. McDonald, J. Stirling, M. Manning, E. Soderstrom, Livingston (2), O’Connor (2), Reid, Martin, W. Ryan, M. Kennedy, L. Braid.
