FIERCE STRUGGLE
ALLEGED THIEF ARRESTED. . POLICE SURROUND HOUSE. Five minutes after a telephone call had been received at the local police station a few days ago a cordon of police surrounded a house at Ashheld, Sydney. - , Three policemen entered , the house, and commenced a systematic search. They found that the occupants were absent, but,' after a few minutes, there was a hubbub at a back window, and they discovered a young and. welldressed man struggling in the grip of a constable, who had been posted at the back of the house. As soon as the reinforcements arrived the man ceased struggling, and is alleged to have said: “Oh, well, I suppose this means two or three years.” . The police took possession of jewellery and clothing, valued at £2O, and also a steel jemmy. They found that every room in the house had been ransacked, and that the contents of draws, wardrobes and cupboards had been scattered in wild confusion. A puantity of clothing was discovered neatly packed beside a large suitcase in the house.
