WOMEN’S INSTITUTE

NIAGARA BRANCH. The hall at Niagara was the scene of bright festivities when the Women’s Institute members entertained the children of the district at a children’s party, this being the first of its kind held in the district for 20 years and parents and friends alike attended in full force. When Santa Claus arrived he was escorted from the door to the Christmas tree (which was well laden with an assortment of toys and artistically decorated) by two tiny tots, Maureen McColgan and Billy Moss. After presenting each child with a gift Santa expressed the wish that all would spend a bright and jolly time during their holidays. Supper was served in the hall and games were played and enjoyed by all. Instead of holding the monthly meeting a social was held in the hall at Niagara when two one-act plays, “Jemima Wins” and “Between the Soup and the Savoury,” were given by members and thoroughly enjoyed by all present. A solo by Mrs J. McLean and a recitation by ■ Mrs C. Brookes were loudly applauded and encores insisted upon. The items were interspersed with dancing, music being supplied by Mesdames Ashmore and C. Mclntosh and Messrs F. Pope, L. Haldane and W. Hayes. Supper was served by the ladies and dancing continued until a late hour.
