SANDERS CUP
COMPLETE PROGRAMME MANY VISITORS EXPECTED. Stewart Island will be crowded with visitors when the Sanders Cup contest commences on Thursday. Large numbers of Invercargill people have made arrangements to visit the Island during this period, and the accommodation available will be fully taxed. Southland’s crew left for the Island yesterday in the Hercules, while the Invercargill boats Te Kaianga, Pakeha and Ureka also set out for Halfmoon Bay. The programme arranged for the contest is as follows:—
Wednesday, January 23, 2.30 pan.: Official welcome to visiting crews, delegates and supporters. 8.0 p.m.: Dominion conference of delegates, 8.0 p.m.: Dance arranged by Stewart Island Yacht Club.
Thursday, January 24, 2.0 p.m.: First race of Sanders Cup series. Subsequent races as fixed by the conference and advertised on notice boards. Evening free. Friday, January 25: Races as advertised. 8 p.m. Smoke concert. Crews, delegates and councillors the guests of the Southland Provincial Yacht and Motor Boat Association.
Saturday, January 26, Afternoon: Stewart Island Yacht Club regatta. Evening free. Sunday, January 27: Afternoon cruise in Paterson’s Inlet. Crews, delegates and councillors the guests of launch owners of the Invercargill Boating Club. Monday, January 28: Races as advertised. Evening: Pictures with dance to follow.
Tuesday, January 29: Races as advert tised. Evening free. Subsequent days: Races as advertised, and the evenings free. The Sanders Cup will be presented to the winning crew after the final race.
