A AND C GRADE MATCHES RAIN INTERFERES WITH PLAY. The resumption of the A. and C. Grade inter-club tennis competitions on Saturday was marred by rain falling about 5 p.m., this preventing a decision in a number of matches. In the A Grade, Central were leading St. Mary’s by 7 sets to 5, and Southn.nd and Georgetown had each secured five sets in their match. Owing to the absence of players, Invercargill B defaulted to Waihopai and Gladstone defaulted to Invercargill A. It is hoped to complete the unfinished matches during the week. In the C Grade two matches were decided, only a few games in each match being unfinished through rain, while the Waihopai v. Southern match was postponed, the mixed doubles not having been played, while Southern were leading when play ceased. C GRADE. GEORGETOWN v. MOANA. Playing on the Georgetown Club’s courts, the home team secured a strong victory over Moana by 11 sets to three. Owing to rain a match in both the ladies’ and mens’ singles was undecided. Results, with Georgetown names first, are as follows:—

MATCH AT WAIMATUKU WIN FOR C. GRADE REPRESENTATIVES. With the object of giving a game to players in Section B of the C grade competition the Association arranged a match with a combined WaimatukuThombury team. It was played on the Waimutuku courts and although rain prevented all the games being got off, the Town tsam secured sufficient sets to give them a definite win. The courts at Waimutuku are in good order and are well shehered, while the hospitality of the home team left nothing to be desired, the result being that a

very pleasant afternoon was spent. The C grade representatives showed excellent form in most of their games, it ebing apparent that next year a number will have qualified for a higher ranking. Johnstone and weed were particularly impressive, and when Miss M. Mclntosh’s drive was functioning properly, it proved a devastating weapon of attack. Among the country players McLean stood out for his well executed, fast ground strokes and McKenzie for his net play. The results, with Town names first mentioned, were: Ladies’ Singles:—Miss M. HAMILTON SHIELD MATCH WALLACE BEAT AWARUA. The inter-electorate match between Wallace and Awarua was played on the Otautau courts on Saturday. The weather in the early part of the day was fine but rain fell later, and stopped play. By that time, however, Wallace had definitely won, having secured 16 sets with another unfinished game in the men’s doubles in their favour, while Awarua won three sets. Following were the results, Awarua names first: Men’s Singles;—G. Lindsay 7 v. Welsh 9; Henderson 2 v. Bruce 9; McIver 4 v. Burgess 9; McCurdy 5 v. Grant 9; F. Lindsay 6 v. Blaikie 9; Smith — v.
