Feminine Bowlers

In view of the outcry raised not so long ago in New Zealand about woman’s intrusion into the sacred precincts of the bowling green, it is interesting to learn that in England at least the game has already become quite a family affair, and wives and daughters are among the keenest of players. In addition, nearly 400 women bowlers entered for the fourth Open Bowling Tournament for Ladies at Eastbourne, and some of the competitors, whose ages ranged from 18 to 80, came from places as far apart as Glasgow, Leicester, Penarth and Torquay. The prejudice that once existed against women bowlers in England has disappeared entirely now, and men acted as scorers at this tournament, and used their cars to convey women competitors to and from the greens. The numbers competing this year were an improvement on preceding years, and the great event was the singles championship, when Mrs Craxford, of Southgate, defended the challenge cup she won last year. ,
