Nizam’s Vast Gold Hoard

Many investors have made small fortunes by speculation in gold-mining shares. Names have been mentioned of men already well known in London and elsewhere whose profits have run into six figures. But few remembered the name of the man whose increase in wealth, as a result of the rise in the price of gold, is probably in the neighbourhood of £60,000,000. In the strong rooms of Hyderabad is safely stored an accumulation of gold bullion and coin generally estimated at not less than £100,000,000. This gold represents part of the Nizam’s personal fortune, and the computation of its value was made when the price of gold was 84/— per fine ounce. The Nizan’s jewels are said to. be worth another £400,000,000, but obviously his gold is a much more liquid asset, the sterling value of which has lately appreciated by the full 60 per cent.
