4ZP.

To the Editor. Sir, —Regarding the correspondence, relative to the programmes broadcast by station 4ZP, the time has now come for some light to be thrown on the subject. Your correspondent “For Quality” has indeed shown himself to be a connoisseur of the high lights of radio broadcasting. Firstly, it should be known that the Southland Radio Club is comprised of an executive of twelve citizens (appointed by the listeners), three of whom have the selecting of the records to be broadcast. Mr R. T. Parsons, owner and operator of the transmission side only, has no control over such and it is to the club’s representatives that they should look to in these matters. As the club receives all the halfcrowns subscribed by members, these people, if dissatisfied, should enforce the selection of good and suitable programmes. Sooner than find fault with “the incapability of the transmitter doing justice to the programmes” (mention may here be made that the station has been passed by the Broadcast Board’s engineers and is in compliance with the P. and T. regulations). “For “Quality” should confine himself to the analysis of the announcers in general. This is another matter for the energetic executive of the S.R.C. As regards 4ZP being a nuisance in connection with space on the dial and heterodyning, etc., too much time has already been taken up in this paper on vagaries of this subject. “For Quality” should qualify for a new receiver. All superhetrodyne models, irrespective of make, are surely selective enough to eliminate the local station which operates on an output of 200300 watt approximately. What will eventually happen when the proposed 300 watt Government station takes the air in this city? Wake up listeners of Southland! Control your pioneer station and if the programmes are unsuitable, demand that the S.R. Executive (who are supposed to represent us) arrange with the Broadcasting Board for more relays with the YA stations and so eliminate our antiquated records and spasmodic announcers.—l am, etc. “FAIRNESS TO ALL.”
