COMPANIES BILL

N.S.W. MEASURE LEGISLATIVE COUNCIL APPROVES “INDECENT HASTE”' (United Press Assn.—Telegraph Copyright.) (Rec. 12.55 a.m.) Sydney, November 6. The Legislative Council to-night passed the Companies Receiver and Manager Bill, he Labour group offering no opposition. However, Mr Martin (Labour) criticized the Government’s “indecent haste” in rushing the measure through. He suggested that there must be something sinister behind the Attorney-General’s action last week when appealing personally to the Leader of the Opposition, Mr Lang, to offer no opposition. Apparently, he said, financial interests behind the Government were anxious to suppress the McArthur group. Mr Martin added that he was quite sure there would have been plenty of money available as the price of Labour’s silence in connection with this measure.

The Attorney-General, Mr H. E. Manning, hotly repudiated the suggestion.
