MAORI’S DEATH
FOOTBALL INJURY COLLAPSE IN COURSE OF GAME FATAL CONCUSSION
(Per United Press Association.) Auckland, September 2. After being injured in the Maori Rugby‘football game for the Prince of Wales Cup yesterday afternoon, a young Wellington representative player, Jack Ruru, aged 22, single, died from haemorrhage in the Rotorua Hospital to-night. He was captain of the Taira-whiti-East Coast team which played the Taihauauru-West Coast combination at Rotorua.
Ruru was injured in a previous game about a fortnight ago and during yesterday’s match he appeared to be still suffering from the effects of concussion. Playing as five-eighths he was injured again when he went down to stop a forward rush. In the second spell he collapsed.
