THICK FOG
BLANKET COVERS SYDNEY TRAFFIC DISORGANIZED. (United Press Assn.—Telegraph Copyright.) Sydney, July 16. The heaviest fog for years descended on Sydney and suburbs before midnight and disorganized all street and harbour traffic. The Lane Cove ferry steamer, Lady Scott, ran aground, but was refloated two hours later. 'Hie other ferry services ceased running, over-burdening tbe North Shore tram traffic. The Marama arrived off the Heads about 6.30 in the morning, but was unable to enter owing to the fog blanket. Three coastal vessels were held up inside the Heads, while outside several vessels waited all night to enter. The South Head signalman for the first time cn record could not see the 1,250,000 candle-power Macquarrie light 350 yards away. It was the thickest fog in his experience.
