Mr Ewart Chapple, who is controller of programmes in New South Wales for the Australian Broadcasting Commission, interviewed on his arrival from London, said the research work in television was advancing steadily in Great Britain. Laboratory experiments were proving most successful, but television had not yet reached the stage when it could safely be submitted to the publie. However, certain large stores .in England were already selling television sets, which were very imperfect, for about £l2. Television had had an uphill fight against commercial interests, including the talkies, but it would not be long delayed.
