PROFESSIONAL MEN
DUTY TO COMMUNITY. A suggestion that doctors, opticians and other professional men owe it to the community to advertise their skill and knowledge was made by Mr R. Sinclair Carr, a director of the London Press Exchange, in a paper presented at a luncheon in London recently, in connection with the Optical Trade Exhibition.
Mr Carr said that the objections to advertising a profession as distinct from a business were much more apparent than real, and much more a matter of pride than principle. “There can be no shame in any body of fully qualified professional men regularly and boldly telling the public what they are there for and what service they have to offer,” said Mr Carr. “Indeed, it would seem to me that in many cases, particularly in the case of the medical profession and the opticians, they owe it as a service to the community to explain in the greatest possible detail what the meaning of their pipfession is.”
