Mr W. H. Woodward returned from Dunedin by the express last evening. The Rev. W. McLean, M.C., of Columba Church, Oamaru, has received a call to St. Andrew’s Church, Bendigo, Victoria.

Dr E. Marsden, Director of the Department of Scientific and Industrial Research, returned north by the express yesterday morning. Mr A. Tindall, Under-Secretary for Mines, who reached Invercargill on Monday afternoon, returned north by the express yesterday morning. Latest arrivals at the Grand Hotel include Messrs J. Quinn (Dunedin), T. R. Ritchie (Dunedin), A. Bloomfield (Wellington), and Dr Butchart (Melbourne). News has been received by the Wellington office of the Shaw Savill and Albion Company, Ltd., of the death at sea on May 7 of Mr J. S. Macintosh, Chief Engineer of the company’s liner Tamaroa, who was well known and greatly esteemed in New Zealand shipping circles. Mr Macintosh, who had not been in good health for some time, died two days before the Tamaroa arrived at Southampton from Wellington and was buried at sea the following day.—Press Association message.
