THE CONCLUDING DAY. (From Our Correspondent.) The Waiau Collie Club trials coneluded at Clifden on Wednesday, the results being as follows: — MAIDEN HUNTAWAY. Through three sets of poles. First prize £2 10/second £l, third 10/-, fourth 5/-. Huntaway 8, noise 8, command 8, slew 6. style 6, total 36.

Also competed: J. Ramsay’s Lass 27. R. McLee’s Scamp 23, A. McKenzie 21, R. O. Gardner’s Top 22, J. McCallum’s Storm 21, R. O. Gardner's Buck 19, R. Turnbull’s Skip 17, B. Millar’s Ginger 17, B. Miller’s Pat 17, G. Cochran’s Joe 16, G. Cochran’s Dick 16, D. McLean’s Dot 14, D. J McEldowney’s Breeze 14, H. A. Robertson’s Bess 13, C. L. Beer’s Baldy 10. Two dogs failed to qualify. The judge’s comment is as follows: — Sport rushed at the start, hunting rashly through the first poles in Imin. 25sec. and completed the course in 4min. 50sec. Jack hunted the sheep slightly off the course for a start. He went through the first poles at the first attempt in Imin. lOsec, and gave the sheep two or three wrong slews. The dog hunted well in fair line through the third poles in 51min., showing good command and slew. Jill hunted in fair line to the first poles in Imin. 25sec. She let the sheep too far away at the second poles, but got through at the first attempt, the dog barking well into the sheep but missing the third poles. Scamp hunted through the first poles at the first attempt in Imin. lOsec. He was too far off the sheep and was through the third poles in 3min. 40sec OPEN HUNTAWAY. Through three sets of poles. First prize £5 and cup (donated by Mr J. W. McLean) to be won twice in succession or three times at intervals, second £3, third £2, fourth £l. Points: Huntaway 8, noise 8 command 8, slew 6, style 6, total 36.

Also competed.—R. Anderson’s Glen 27 points, R. Turnbull’s Rouse 27, J. Ramsay’s Lass 26, A T. Miller’s Syd 24, J. McCallum’s Storm 20, W. Glendining’s Scamp 18, J. Ramsay’s Maid 18, R. McLee’s Scamp 21, R. Turnbull’s Skip 17, T. Reidy’s Sharp 16, D. McLean’s Dot 11. One dog failed to qualify. Jock hunted through the first poles in Imin. 55sec, and allowed the sheep to drift off the course, then gave them a bad slew. He hunted through the second poles in 2min. ssec., but had another bad slew following, completing the course in 6min. ' Jack hunted through the first poles in Imin. 20sec, going too far and heading the sheep before the third poles, completing the course in 61min. Jill had difficulty in getting the sheep on to the hill, hunting through the first poles in 2min. 20sec, and slewing well at the second poles. She was inclined to get off the line and split the sheep before the third poles, but completed the course in smin. 50sec. Sport hunted through the first poles in 45sec, and then gave the sheep a bad slew, hunting too fast and again slewing badly. He was through the third poles in 2min. 45sec. LOCAL EVENT. Head and hold in ring. First £2 10/- and cup (donated by Dr. Gillies) to be held by winner for ensuing year, second £l, third 10/fourth 5/-. Heading 10, pulling 15 command 8, ring work 4, total 37.

Also completed.—H. A. Robertson’s Dick 26 points, J. Milne’s Roy H. A. Robertson’s Boy 25, R. McLee’s Don 24, S. Gardner’s Rock 24, Rob Gardner’s Gyp 24, T. Tecofsky’s Tip 17. Four dogs failed to qualify. Cloud cast to the right and headed in Imin. 20sec, pulling in fair line. He barked several times and pulled quietly into the ring in 7min. 45sec. His ring work was a little too rash, but he held the sheep fairly well. Toss cast to the right and stopped twice coming in on the cast, heading closely in Imin. He was starting to pull nicely, but split the sheep at the foot of the hill, allowing them to drift off the course. He reached the ring in 3min. 25sec, but let the sheep out of the ring three times. Ned cast to the right but steadied up twice for direction and headed closely. He started to pull rashly and shouldered the sheep off the line, entering the ring in 3min. 50sec. Ginger cast to the right and ran out free in fair line to head the sheep, but failed to stop in Imin. lOsec. The sheep drifted along the hill and split twice. On recovering, he pulled them into the ring in 4min. 25sec, letting them out of the ring three times. His work was a little rash.

At the conclusion of the meeting Mr A. T. Miller donated £5 towards the Collie Club’s funds. A special prize of 10/-, donated by Mr R. O. Gardner for the youngest competitor w - as won by Bain Miller In a competition on the first day the following tied. —Mrs Beer, Mrs C Gardner, Mr C. Gardner and Mr P. Gardner with 31b lljoz, Mr F. Young being second with 41b 12oz. The competition for guessing the weight of the sheep on the first day resulted:—A. Murray 117Jlb, Ist; second day, J. O’Brien 1561 b, Ist.
