DRIVER’S COOLNESS

ACCIDENT AVERTED.

(Per United Press Association.) Wellington, January 7. Only the presence of mind of F. Reid, driver of the Eastbourne bus, on Saturday afternoon, averted a serious accident. Just as the bus turned a corner, a car, which had been parked at the roadside, backed out right into the track of the bus. With a collision apparently inevitable Reid saw the car full of children and steered the bus over the edge of the road on to the beach below, a drop of three feet, but he was able to keep the bus upright and the passengers escaped with a shaking and fright. One of the children in the car, which was grazed by the bus, was cut by flying glass.
