TEST MATCH

M.C.C. V. INDIA

VISITORS MAKE 403

HOME BATSMEN FAIL

(United Press Assn.—Telegraph Copyright.) Calcutta, January 6.

In the second test with India which opened yesterday the Marylebone team made 403.

Langridge played vigorous cricket. It was a disappointing day for India, the attack failing with the exception of Amar Singh, who bowled heroically nearly all day, sending down 39 overs. The captain, Nayudu, had only three short spells, in which he took two for 8. India lost her opportunities to-day for after opening the day by getting three wickets for 44 Verity, who was given three lives, with Townsend added 70 for the ninth wicket, India’s chance of facing a score within her capabilities disappeared. India’s batsmen also failed completely against England’s fast bowlers, Clark and Nicholls, and three were down for 27 with Dilawar Hussein injured on the head from a bumper ball from Nicholls. However, Wazi Rali and Merchant looked like retrieving the position. They added 63 for the fourth wicket when Jardine specially brought on Verity and Wazi Rali was caught in the slips, which dashed India’s hopes. The scores were:
