GENERAL NOTES.

The schooner Britannia (G. Cross, Master), left for Stewart Island at 11.0 a.m. yesterday with a party of tourists. The New Zealand Shipping Company’s motor vessel Rangitata arrived as expected from Wellington yesterday morning and later began her loading for the Homeland. Completion is expected to-day and the vessel is due to sail this evening for Napier. The Union Company’s Poolta cleared Gisborne at 6.30 p.m. on Wednesday for Bluff, via Wellington. Due at Bluff on Sunday, she will sail on Monday for Wellington, Napier and Gisborne, via way ports.

The Union Company’s transpacific freighter Waikawa is set down to load at Pacific Coast ports of Canada and U.S.A, for New Zealand ports, including Bluff. She will load at Vancouver on March 20, San Francisco on April 3 and Los Angeles on April 5 and is due at Auckland, her first New Zealand port of call, on May 2. The Waikawa will finally reach Bluff on May 20 to complete discharge and sail for Melbourne the same day. The Union Steam Ship Company advises that the intercolonial freighter Wainui is to clear Melbourne on January 10 for Bluff, where she is due on the 15th. She will sail the same day for Dunedin, Lyttelton and Wellington. Instead of proceeding to America after loading in Australia, the Canadian Scottish is to complete loading in New Zealand for New York, Boston and Halifax. She is due at papier on January 15, and will load at Wellington and Auckland, sailing finally on January 26. The Federal Line steamer Cambridge will arrive at Opua to-morrow from New Plymouth, to load for London, Liverpool, and Glasgow. Her otherloading ports in New Zealand will be Napier, Auckland and Wellington, and she will sail finally from Wellington for London, via Panama, on January 20.

The C. and D. Line advises that the Port Melbourne, en route to New Zealand in ballast, is now due at New Plymouth on January 5 to commence Homeward loading. Captain C. P. Thrower is now in command. The Union Company’s cargo steamer Wairuna arrived at Suva on December 27, en route to Apia and Vancouver. She will load at Pacific coast ports during February for Papeete, Nukualofa, Auckland, Wellington, Lyttelton,

Dunedin, Melbourne and Sydney. The Wairuna is due at Auckland about March 13.

The Shaw, Savill and Albion liner lonic was to leave Southampton on December 29 for Auckland and Wellington with passengers and cargo for New Zealand ports. The vessel is due at Auckland on February 6. The Marine Department advises that the left buoy marking Hikutu Rock, Tokomaru Bay, is adrift, and will be replaced as soon as possible. The captain of the Shaw, Savill Company’s motor ship Taranaki, which left London on December 5 in ballast for New Zealand, has advised by wireless that the vessel is expected to arrive at Port Chalmers at daybreak next Monday.
