MINIMUM PENALTY

PRINTING OF PAPER. NAME OF COMPANY OMITTED. (Per United Press Association.) Wellington, October 27. In giving reserved decision in the Magistrate’s Court to-day, Mr E. Page, S.M., imposed the minimum penalty of £5 upon L. T. Watkins Ltd. for omitting to place the name and registered office of the company on a paper printed by it. The fact that defendant printed a paper which purported to be a copy of two articles published in the Melbourne Argus was omitted, but counsel for the defence contended the paper came within the exemption set out in section 8 of the Printers and Newspapers Registration Act, 1908. Mr Page did not think that the articles could be held to come within the exemption set out in clause 8 and he decided that defendants had committed a breach of the statute.
