STATES IN DEFAULT
CONTRIBUTIONS TO LEAGUE. NEW SYSTEM PROPOSED. (British Official Wireless.) Rugby, October 5. In the Budget Commission of the League Assembly Mr L. Hore-Belisha called for reform of the system whereby members of the League which failed to pay their contributions to it yet enjoyed all the privileges of membership. Great Britain alone paid onetenth of the cost of the League, and the British Empire as a whole provided one-quarter of the League’s income. “The League,” he said, “does not frankly ask us to pay what the others do not pay, but it asks us to pay more than would be required if all the States paid their subscriptions.” He said he would propose measures to preclude a continuation of defaults by the States concerned. The arrears outstanding last December amounted to £960,000.
