THE QUOTA SYSTEM

QUESTION IN THE HOUSE. (From Our Parliamentary Reporter.) Wellington, September 26. Reference to the quota system was made in the House of Representatives this afternoon when Mr P. A. de la Perrelle placed the following question, addressed to the Prime Minister, on the order paper: “In view of the recent statement made at Hamilton by Mr T. Baxter, representative of the National Farmers’ Union of England and Wales, that the Imperial Government was already committed to the quota system on dairy produce imported into the United Kingdom, and, further, in view of the probable restriction of export trade with the United Kingdom . in future on our rapidly growing dairying industry, will the Government take immediate steps to establish new markets so that our expanding volume of primary products may be absorbed?”
