NEW USE FOR WHEAT
PRODUCTION OF ALCOHOL.
A DOUBTFUL PROPOSITION.
(United Press Assn— Telegraph Copyright.) Calgary', September 25. A plant to produce industrial alcohol from surplus wheat would be a doubtful business proposition, states Professor J. H. Shipley, of the University of Alberta, in a report to the Calgary Trade Board. In Europe, Professor Shipley states, the manufacture of ethyl alcohol from farm products cannot compete with the use of gasoline as a fuel, due to the relatively high price of these products fcr food purposes. Wherever alcohol is used in Europe as a fuel it has Government aid.
