RIVERSDALE NOTES

WOMEN’S INSTITUTE. (From Our Correspondent.) On Thursday afternoon a meeting of the Women’s Institute was held, Mrs Campbell presiding over a good attendance. The roll-call for the meeting was “An easy dinner for washing day.” It was decided to hold a special meeting on November 6 to welcome Mrs Kelso, the Dominion organizing secretary, who will be present at the meeting. It was also decided to establish a library for the benefit of the institute members, and on the third Thursday of October to hold a bring-and-buy sale and a social function during the afternoon. An interesting demonstration was given by Mrs J. Clark on humpty-making, and items were contributed by Mrs Kirk, Mrs G. Clark and Miss K. Jopp. The hostesses for the afternoon were Mesdames McAlister, Cook and Hodge. On Monday a special meeting of the institute was held, when a demonstration was given by Misses Fogo and Robins, of the Home Science Extension Bureau.

One of the largest and brightest of the dances held this season was the young people’s ball, ■which was held in the Drill Hall on Wednesday night. Excellent music was supplied by the Clutha dance band. Messrs E. Hall and H. Greer capably carried out the duties of M.C.’s.
