LABOUR HALL COMPANY
ANNUAL REPORT. The annual report of the Southland Trades and Labour Hall Company, Ltd. is as follows:— During the past 12 months the directors have spared no effort to maintain the hall funds in a satisfactory position, and although the rents from meetings have shown a slight falling off, the weekly dances run on behalf of the hall are proving a gratifying success. A certain amount of expense has been entailed in erecting a staging for the orchestra, and adding to the interior and exterior of the hall, but this is proving money well spent. An application was made to the Minister of Internal Affairs for a share of the proceeds of the art unions, but due to the major portion of profits going to the relieving of unemployment distress, there is no immediate prospect of obtaining money from this quarter for assisting to build the main hall. As the Southland Trades and Labour _ Hall Company is a public institution, it behoves everyone, especially the young men and women of this city, to do everything in their power to assist in building up the finances of the hall. Three directors retire by rotation and are eligible for re-election. An earnest request is made to shareholders to be present at the annual meeting on Friday evening and take an active interest in their institution.
