FLOWER SHOW
NORTH INVERCARGILL BUSY BEES. Encouraged by the interest shown in their first venture last year, the North Invercargill Presbyterian Church Busy Bees held a Flower Show in the Sunday School Hall on Saturday, 23rd inst. The attendance at both the afternoon and evening sessions was very gratifying, and those who patronized the function were rewarded by a bright display of fresh spring flowers. Owing to the absence of high winds this season the blooms were at their best, and among the exhibits were some fine specimens. The general organization worked smoothly, the staging of the exhibits in particular being very effective.
In this connection the Busy Bees are indebted to the Garden Club, who generously lent their stands for the occasion. Mr G. M. Broughton judged the narcissi section, the awards in the other classes being made by Mr H. S. Young and Mr Broughton. During the evening Mr Broughton spoke on the culture of narcissi, and handed around for inspection some beautiful blooms. In complimenting the Busy Bees on the improved quality of the exhibits, he urged them not to be content with mediocre varieties, but to try and -obtain a few choice bulbs, and work with the object of producing real quality blooms. After answering several questions, a cordial vote of thanks to the speaker terminated a helpful address. Following is the prize list:—
