GIRL MOLESTED
PEKIN INCIDENT ACTION OF JAPANESE SOLDIERS FOREIGNERS INDIGNANT (United Press Assn.—Telegraph Copyright.) (Rec. 11.0 p.m.) Pekin, September 5. Foreigners arc highly indignant at an attack by Japanese soldiers upon Miss Arguello, private secretary to the American Minister. Miss Arguello was riding round a glacis surrounding the legation quarter when Japanese, having decided without warning not to allow their section to be used for horseback riding, stopped her, at the same time handing her an unsigned note forbidding trespass. Miss Arguello continued her ride and returned surrounded by soldiers with fixed bayonets. One threw a large stone at the pony and others struck her on the arm, snatched her riding cane, seized the bridle and attempted to unmount her. She was only saved from further violence by the intervention of the French Commandant.
