MIRACULOUS ESCAPE

TRAIN HITS CAR. (Per United Press Association.) Palmerston North, August 30. The Bath Street railway crossing at Levin was the scene of a miraculous escape this afternoon when the southbound New Plymouth express crashed into a car driven by J. Richards, a retired farmer. The other occupants were Mesdames W. Nye and W. Heseltine, who were engaged on a clothes drive. It is reported that the engine of the car stalled on the crossing. The car was thrown to one side and badly damaged, but the passengers suffered bruises and slight cuts only.
