SMART ARREST
CONSTABLE’S DISCOVERY. MISSING PROPERTY RECOVERED. (Per United Press Association.) Foxton, August 29. Smart work on the part of Constable R. Owen was responsible for the arrest of two men on a charge of burgling two Levin drapery establishments. Constable Owen noticed two women arrive in Foxton in a taxi with five suitcases and his suspicions were aroused when later in the day |bey were joined by two men who arrived in. a service car. The strangers deposited their bags in a local fruit shop and went off. After an inspection of the shops, Constable Owen communicated with the Levin police and a search of the bags revealed the property missing from the Levin shops. Subsequently the two men were arrested and allegedly admitted the offence. In the Levin Police Court, before a Justice of the Peace, Bernard Cummings, aged 21, and Garth Durrant, aged 24, were charged with breaking and entering the premises of J. E. Wallace and W. Davie at Levin and were both remanded to Wellington.
