SKI CHAMPIONSHIPS

NEW ZEALAND TITLES. (Per United Press Association.) Timaru, August 29. The New Zealand ski championship meeting commenced at Mount Cook today when there was excellent racing from the top of Ball Pass for 7200 feet in the New Zealand downhill championship which was won by H. H. Elworthy (Tasman Club) who ran the last 350 yards on two broken skis. L. V. Bryant (Tasman) was second, H. W’igley (Tasman) third and R. C. Murie (Ruapehu) fourth. Elworthy won by 40 seconds in smin 53 2-ssec. The women’s downhill championship resulted: Mrs A. B. Edwards (Christchurch Club) Gmin 45scc 1; Mrs H. Richards (Windwhistle Club) 2; Miss L. Payton (Christchurch Club) 3; Miss H. Montgomery (Christchurch) 4. The Aorangi downhill race, postponed from last week resulted: L V. Bryant (Tasman) 1; W. B. Myhre (Canterbury Ski Club) 2. Womens race—Mrs Edwards 1, Miss Payton 2. In the Aorangi combined championship, Bryant was first, Mayhre 2, Dr Frankel 3. In the women’s contest Mrs Edwards was first, Mrs Williams (Aorangi Ski Club) 2 and Mrs G. Jones 3. Bryant won the Hudson Cup.
