Mr W. A. McCaw returned from the north by last evening’s express. Mr R. R. Binney returned to Invercargill by last evening’s express after a visit to Wellington. Mr W. E. Hughes, London, arrived in Invercargill yesterday and is a guest at the Grand Hotel.
Mr A. Cutt, who has been on a visit to Wellington, returned to Invercargill by last evening’s express. Mr E. G. Matthews of Dunedin, motored to Invercargill yesterday, and is staying at the Grand Hotel. Mr and Mrs W. R. Sellar, Dunedin, motored to Invercargill yesterday and are staying at the Grand Hotel. Mr S. Kelly, of Wellington, arrived in Invercargill by car yesterday, and is a guest at the Grand Hotel. Mr and Mrs J. C. Hardly, Auckland, arrived in Invercargill by car yesterday, and are at the Grand Hotel. Mr W. W. Allan, of Wellington, arrived in Invercargill by last evening’s express. He is a guest at the Grand Hotel.
Mr F. Lockwood, Wellington, was a passenger to Invercargill by last evening’s express, and is staying at the Grand Hotel. Mr B. P. Mansfield, curator of reserves to the Invercargill City Council, returned from the north by the express last evening. Mr and Mrs W. J. A. McGregor, Mount Linton, motored in to Invercargill vesterday afternoon and are guests at the Grand Hotel. Colonel J. C. Nichols and Mr Arthur Nichols, of “Kuriheka,” North Otago, reached Invercargill by car yesterday afternoon. They return to-day. Mrs J. P. Dakin and her son Allen, who have been on a visit to Great Britain, are due to arrive at Auckland to-day by the Rangitata from London. Mr J. Dunlop, a member of the Dairy Produce Board, who has been visiting Wellington on official business, returned to Invercargill by last evening’s express.
Miss Joyce Sampson, who is assisting Sister Jessie in the Presbyterian Maori Mission, has returned from Opotiki on sick leave, and is in the Park Hospital recovering from a successful operation to the throat. Dr. Aubrey Humphries, son of Mr Herbert Humphries, of Napier, has been appointed president of the Australian and New Zealand Club of San Francisco. Dr. Humphries has attained the degrees of doctor of dental surgery and of dental medicine. He was for some years professor of prosthetic dentistry at the North Pacific Dental College.
Mr W. H. Dixon, L.R.A.M., A.R.C.M., musical director of the Royal Christchurch Musical Society and the Ashburton Choral Society, has been appointed vocal and instrumental judge at the Bendigo competitions, Australia, which will be held in May next. These competitions have been conducted on a large scale for many years, lasting for three and a half weeks each year.
Mr W. Hinchey, chairman of the Southland Electric Power Board, Mr C. Campbell (secretary), and Mr J. Hargest, M.P., who have been on a visit to Wellington to confer with the Minister of Finance, the Rt. Hon. J. G. Coates, with regard to the Power Board’s interest payments, returned to Invercargill by last evening's express. Mr T. Golden, a membor of the Power Board, who accompanied the party, left the train at Dunedin to attend a meeting of the Waipiata Sanatorium Committee.
