MEN’S HOCKEY

EASTERN DISTRICT GAMES. Men’s hockey in Eastern Southland is progressing satisfactorily, two more teams having been formed, one at Waikaka and one at Wendon. The Riversdale team has also decided to carry on. There are approximately eight teams in the district now, and there is a possibility of still more being formed. The Gore teams are improving with every match. They are keeping their positions much better and their combination has improved.

Last Wednesday an eleven from Gore travelled to Waikaka to play the newly formed Waikaka eleven. They met strong opposition and had to work hard to win.

On Saturday the Saturday Gore eleven travelled to Pukerau to play a return match' and they met much stronger opposition than in their previous game. The Pukerau players combined much better than before and gave an all round-better display. The Gore team won by 3 goals to 1. R. Hanning, at full back for Gore, gave a fine display.

The Gore Club has obtained training quarters in the Town Hall. The members meet on Tuesday evenings and indulge in exercise, such as drill, skipping and running.
