ANNUAL MEETING OF BOWLING CLUB. (From Our Correspondent.) The annual meeting of above club was held in Masonic Hall on Friday evening when the president, Mrs Chas. E. Davey, presided over an attendance of 17 members. In moving the adopting motion, Mr Davey said the club had commenced the year with a credit balance of £1 14/10, and had finished with £3 14/10, which he considered very satisfactory from a financial point of view. All had worked well in the interests of the club, the result being a most successful and harmonious season. He was pleased to see reference made of the good work done during the year by caretaker Mr Jas. Robertson as the work done on the green was a credit to that gentleman and to the club. Seconded by Mr Alfred H. Jones and carried unanimously. The election of office bearers resulted as follows: President, Geo. C. Kerse; vice-presidents, Thos. Burstall, D. McDonald and A. A. Wilson jun.; secretary, Mr A. H. Jones; general committee, Messrs E. J. Traynor, H. Hunter, A. Ross, H. McKerrow, C. E. Davey, N. Stark, F. Williams, D. N. A. Macpherson, and W. F. Bennetto; green committee, Messrs Hunter, Traynor and Jones; auditor, Mr Davey; delegates to Eastern District sub-centre, Messrs Murphy and Bennetto; selector, Mr Traynor; handicapper, Mr Stark; competitions committee, president, Messrs Stark, Macpherson and Hunter.
Mr McKerrow said the Eastern District delegates should be instructed to support two rounds being played in the competitions. Mr Hunter supported this view. Matches could now be played in the evening. Mr Macpherson favoured one round being played, especially as there was a likelihood of Tapanui coming into the competition. He did not favour evening playing if same could be avoided. Decided that delegates support two rounds and the playing of games on Wednesday afternoons.
The delegates were also instructed to support the sub-centre’s application to the Southland Centre for a trophy to replace the Day Cup, now won outright.
The question of club competitions was freely discussed and evenutally the competitions committee were given ful power to organize same. Opening day was fixed for Wednesday, October 4. Subscriptions were fixed as follows: £2 2/-, £1 1/- for first year players and 10/- for country players. Mr Stark offered two ferns for a pairs competition, pairs to consist of recognized skips or third and leads Accepted with thanks. The president and Messrs Wilson Hunter and Bogue stated that they were presenting trophies for competitions. Accepted with thanks. Mr Davey presented his trophy to Mr Kerse as winner of the handicap singles, and to Mr Stark the certificate accompaning his win to Eastern District champion singles. The recipients suitably returned thanks. This closed the meeting and a social hour followed.
